Site Features
The new site is built around groups; each group represents a specific district, council committee, or Scouting interest. By joining a group you can receive updates about group news and events, as well as access to any "members only" resources. To get started, sign in and go to the "Find A Group" page. If you cannot find the groups you are looking for, let us know.
More new features will be added over the next few months, but right now you can start exploring:
  • Blogs where district and council leaders can share news and program updates
  • Forums let members can post questions and discuss with other leaders
  • Member profiles are your space to share your Scouting background and connect with other leaders
  • Council Calendar lists upcoming events and key dates (be sure to join your district's group to get the latest district events too!)
  • NCAC's new online store has the most popular custom Council patches and more!
Check out the site and let us know what you think – or what features you would like to see added – in the Idea Box. If you have problems with the site report it here; if you have any other questions or cannot find the information you need, contact us!

Free Pizza Party for Your Unit!

A note from Steve Smith, Chair of our District Golf Tournament:

The 4th annual Patriot District Golf Tournament is coming up in September and we are trying to get as many golfers as possible.  The Troop, Pack or Crew that brings the most golfers to the tournament will get a free Pizza Party!  The district committee will bring the pizza to a meeting for your unit.

The tournament is Monday September 9th at General’s ridge Golf Course in Manassas Park.  The cost is $100 per player.  Please see the attached flyer or on the Patriot District Website http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/event/988943

There are many ways to get the word out.

  1. 1)     Get the word out through your troop, tell the scouts!  Pizza will bring them in!
  2. 2)     Have your committee donate a foursome to the Chartering Organization.  What a great way to say thank you to them for all they have done.
  3. 3)     Ask your parents to get the word out through their friends or at work.

We hope of you will get the word out and make the 4th Annual Patriot District Golf Tournament our best event yet!

Steve Smith

2nd Annual Joe's Crab Shack Friends of Scouting Fundraiser, Sunday, April 7th

A reminder from Steve Smith, Patriot District Finance Vice Chair:

Joe’s Crab Shack is once again very generously hosting a fundraiser on Sunday 7 April from 12 noon to 6pm.   All you need to do is gather your family, friends and the rest of the families from your unit and come to Joe’s in Fair Lakes.  Once there eat, drink and be merry!

Joe’s will donate up to 20% of the money made during the time listed above to the Patriot District!  All you need to do is remember to bring the flyer (attached).  Be sure and give these flyers to everyone you know and invite them to come to Joe’s.

Last year we raised over $1,200, I am sure we can surpass that total this year!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!  I look forward to seeing all of you at Joe’s on the 7th of April!

Announcement from National Council Regarding Membership Policy

The National Council has released the below message concerning planned decision-making regarding sexual orientation membership criteria.  This is being sent out via our Patriot District email system to broaden its distribution.

Boy Scouts to Continue Review of Membership Policy,
Take Action at May Meeting
The Boy Scouts of America’s executive board has directed committees to continue an exhaustive review of the BSA’s policy barring gays and lesbians from the program. The approximately 1,400 voting members of the national council will take action on the resolution at the national meeting in May 2013 in Grapevine, Texas.

Please read the full text of the BSA’s release:
For 103 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been a part of the fabric of this nation, providing it’s youth program of character development and values-based leadership training.   In the past two weeks, Scouting has received an outpouring of feedback from the American public. It reinforces how deeply people care about Scouting and how passionate they are about the organization.

After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy.
To that end, the executive board directed its committees to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and listen to their perspectives and concerns.  This will assist the officers’ work on a resolution on membership standards. The approximately 1,400 voting members of the national council will take action on the resolution at the national meeting in May 2013.

Doug Hess

Vice Chair, Communications
